Error 407 and wrong login or password
What error 407 Proxy Authentication Required means and how to fix the proxy authentication details.
What you need
The login and password from the order. Authentication is by login and password; the issued format is host:port:login:password.
Quick check
- Copy
LOGINandPASSWORDfrom the order again. Do not type them by hand: it is easy to mix up similar characters. - Remove spaces and line breaks at the start and end.
- Make sure you enter the login in the login field and the password in the password field, not
HOSTorPORT. - Check that the details belong to this order and proxy, not another one.
- If the program saved an old password, delete the saved connection and add it again.
- If the password contains special characters and you paste the details into an address like
LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT, it is better to enter them in the program's separate fields. - Make sure the order is active.
What it means
- 407 Proxy Authentication Required: the proxy requires authentication, and the program did not send the details or they are wrong.
- 401 Unauthorized: this is a response from the website itself, not the proxy. The problem is access to the site, not the proxy.
- The login window keeps coming back: the details were not accepted, and entering them again will not help until they are corrected.
When to contact support
If you copied the details again and the error remains, contact support.
What to include
Include the order number, the time of the error with the time zone, the error text or a screenshot, and the name of the program. Never send the password.
