How to set up a proxy in Octo Browser

Add an HTTP(S) or SOCKS5 proxy to an Octo Browser profile and verify it with the Check proxy button.

What you need

Octo Browser accepts HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS5 and SSH proxies. Supported formats: HOST:PORT:LOGIN:PASSWORD, LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT, PROTOCOL://LOGIN:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT. You can paste the string straight into the Host field. For SOCKS5, use the separate SOCKS5 port if one is listed with your proxy.

Setup

  1. In the profile list, click the Direct button in the Proxy column.
  2. Choose Set new proxy.
  3. Paste the proxy details into the Host field (for example, HOST:PORT:LOGIN:PASSWORD).
  4. If the proxy is only for this profile, leave the "Save to proxy list" checkbox cleared. To keep it for reuse, tick that checkbox.
  5. Click Check proxy and wait for the result.
  6. Save the profile settings.

Check

  1. A successful check shows a green "Available" notification with geolocation data; a failure shows a red "Unavailable".
  2. Launch the profile and open the IP check page on Hopmind: the address should match the proxy address.

Common problems

  1. "Unavailable": check the host, port, login, password and the proxy expiry date.
  2. If the proxy works but the check does not pass, your internet provider may be blocking the checking service: try another network.
  3. Shared proxies can be slow or unstable if several customers use them at the same time.
