IP did not change: the site shows my old address
What to check if, after setting up the proxy, a site still sees your usual address.
What you need
The proxy address from the order and the IP check page. Static proxies do not change their address on their own: the address stays constant.
Quick check
- Open the IP check and compare the address with the one from the order.
- Fully close the browser or program (not just the tab) and open it again: many read their settings at startup.
- Make sure the proxy is on: the system switch, the profile in the extension, the selected proxy in the app.
- Turn off other proxy extensions and VPNs; they override the settings.
- Check that the program uses the system proxy. If it does not, set the proxy in the program itself, see other app.
- Clear cookies and cache or open a private window: the site may have recognised you by them rather than by your address.
- If the check shows the right address but the site sees another one, a WebRTC leak is possible: the browser can report a local address to sites, bypassing the proxy. Turn WebRTC off with a browser setting or an extension.
What it means
- The address matches the proxy: the proxy works. A site may still infer the country or network type from other signals.
- Your usual address is shown: traffic goes direct and the proxy is not applied.
- DNS leak: site names are looked up through your provider rather than through the proxy. A DNS leak test page shows it. For SOCKS5, turn on DNS resolution through the proxy if the app offers it.
- WebRTC leak: the browser reveals your address to sites directly, bypassing the proxy.
When to contact support
If the check address does not match the address from the order even with correct settings in another browser or program, contact support.
What to include
Include the order number, the time of the error with the time zone, the error text or a screenshot, and the name of the program. Never send the password.
