How to set up a proxy in any app

A universal guide for a program with Host, Port, Username and Password fields and a proxy type selector.

What you need

The proxy is issued in the format host:port:login:password. In the examples below, HOST, PORT, LOGIN and PASSWORD are replaced with your values from the order.

The app must be able to work through a proxy with its own authentication. If it has no such feature, use a program that redirects other apps' traffic, for example Proxifier, or a system proxy.

Setup

  1. Open the app settings and find the proxy section. It may be called Proxy, Network, Connection or Proxy server.
  2. Choose manual setup (Manual), not automatic or system.
  3. Choose the proxy type: HTTP or HTTPS for the main port, SOCKS5 for the separate SOCKS5 port.
  4. Host or Server: HOST. Port: PORT (for SOCKS5, the SOCKS5 port from your order).
  5. Username or Login: LOGIN. Password: PASSWORD.
  6. Save the settings and restart the app.

If there is no login field

Then the app probably does not support authentication. Use a system proxy, a traffic redirector or another app.

Check

  1. Do something in the app that needs the network.
  2. If the app opens websites, open the IP check: the address should match the proxy address.

Common problems

  1. Connection error or timeout: check the type and port, see proxy not connecting.
  2. Error 407 or access denied: see error 407.
  3. The app ignores the proxy: some programs do not use system or custom settings and need a traffic redirector.
