How to set up a proxy in Mozilla Firefox

Firefox's own proxy settings: manual setup and login and password authentication.

What you need

The proxy is issued in the format host:port:login:password. In the examples below, HOST, PORT, LOGIN and PASSWORD are replaced with your values from the order.

Firefox has its own proxy settings and may not depend on the system ones. This is handy if you need the proxy only in the browser.

Setup

  1. Open the Firefox menu and choose "Settings", the "General" section.
  2. Scroll down to Network Settings and click "Settings".
  3. Choose "Manual proxy configuration".
  4. Enter the address HOST and port PORT for the HTTP proxy.
  5. If the address and port are the same for all protocols, tick "Also use this proxy for HTTPS".
  6. Click "OK".
  7. Open any site. If Firefox shows a login and password prompt, enter LOGIN and PASSWORD.

If your proxy has a separate SOCKS5 port, you can enter it in the SOCKS Host field and choose SOCKS v5. The names of individual fields may differ between Firefox versions.

Check

  1. Open the IP check.
  2. The address should match the proxy address from your order.

Common problems

  1. The login window does not appear and pages do not open: check HOST and PORT, see proxy not connecting.
  2. The login and password are not accepted: see error 407.
  3. To go back to the previous connection, choose "No proxy" or "Use system proxy settings" in the same window.
