How to set up a proxy on iPhone and iPad

A proxy for a Wi-Fi network in iOS and iPadOS: the Configure Proxy item and its limitations.

What you need

The proxy is issued in the format host:port:login:password. In the examples below, HOST, PORT, LOGIN and PASSWORD are replaced with your values from the order.

Limitations

On iOS the proxy is set for an individual Wi-Fi network and does not apply to mobile data. An HTTP proxy is supported; SOCKS5 cannot be set up in this dialog. Not all apps respect the system proxy.

Setup

  1. Open Settings and go to the Wi-Fi section.
  2. Tap the info icon next to the connected network.
  3. Scroll down and tap "Configure Proxy".
  4. Choose "Manual".
  5. Enter the "Server" HOST and the "Port" PORT.
  6. Turn on "Authentication" and enter LOGIN and PASSWORD.
  7. Tap "Save".

The item names depend on the iOS version and the system language.

Check

  1. Open Safari and go to the IP check.
  2. The address should match the proxy address from your order.

Common problems

  1. Sites do not open: check HOST, PORT and the authentication details, see proxy not connecting.
  2. Authorization error: see error 407.
  3. After switching to another Wi-Fi network, you need to set up the proxy again.
  4. To turn the proxy off, choose "Off" in the same item.
