How to set up a proxy in Microsoft Edge
Edge is built on Chromium: it takes its proxy from the Windows settings, and an extension works for login and password.
What you need
The proxy is issued in the format host:port:login:password. In the examples below, HOST, PORT, LOGIN and PASSWORD are replaced with your values from the order.
Edge is built on Chromium, like Chrome, and handles proxies the same way: through the system settings or through an extension.
Setup
- Set up the system proxy following the Windows 11 or macOS guide.
- Fully close and reopen Edge.
- If a login and password prompt appears, enter
LOGINandPASSWORD. - If there is no prompt, install SwitchyOmega from the Edge add-ons catalog and set up a profile with a login and password.
Check
- Open the IP check.
- The address should match the proxy address from your order.
Common problems
- The address did not change: see IP did not change.
- The password is not accepted: see error 407.
- A work computer may have its proxy managed by an organization policy: then custom settings are unavailable.
